Texans with Big Hearts
Q: How did this all begin? A: There was this little Texan with a big heart ....
During what was supposed to be his spring break, Donald, a 6th grader at Dallas Christain Academy and a Dallas 1st Warrior Pathfinder, asked his mom if they could print a mask after seeing an article "Hack COVID-19". It just so happened his schools 3D printer was in a box at his house because installation was postponed due to the closures. An engineer at heart, like his Dad, Donald did the online training that came with the printer and went to work setting up the tool.
Doni Dorak, mom/ a former software engineer at TI, did a few software conversions. Bang! The first mask was made. A day later our neighbor shared the story of Dr. Richardson's Make the Masks campaign in Billings, Montana. They joined their campaign to bring the movement to Texas. The next day, Doni reached out to the community via social media and the team began to grow. Other families quickly threw their hats in the rodeo, and Make the Masks Texas was born. The website came about via Daniel Dorak, currently an Otto Bobcat, and incoming freshman at Plano Academy (STEM ). Most mask builds are assembled at the Dorak kitchen table by Mark Dorak, a TI engineer overseeing quality control at DLP and now for Make the Masks Texas. In the first fourteen days since its conception, Make the Masks Texas, which is forged by caring families, has delivered 60 masks to local at risk neighbors, healthcare workers, firefighters, and doctors on the frontlines fighting COVID-19. And we are just getting started.
Do you have a big heart? Then join us too. Get the word out, build masks, or start a campaign in your area.
All it takes is a "Texas Sized Heart".
